Look for scrap yards that are local and pay cash for vehicles. Salvage yards sell parts off of your vehicle to customers who are fixing their own vehicles. Make sure that you are getting the most money for your automobile before you decide to sell. Investigate a number of yards and collect quotes so you can compare them.

You will need the title for the auto before you can sell it. Scrap and salvage lots cannot purchase an auto from anyone but the owner. After you have assessed the vehicles damage look up its value. Write down all the information you have on the auto before you start to shop around for the top price you can get.

Be aware that you may have to answer questions about how much damage a vehicle has ad if it is running. If it is not running, you may be asked what the problem is. If your vehicle is operational it will be worth much more than if it is not. Keep in mind that some lots charge to pick up the vehicle. However, even if it is not running you will likely make some money.

Make sure to call all the yards that are in your area and those that are in cities nearby. If you can drive the vehicle you might find it worth the money to deliver it to the yard. If a yard has to tow your auto they may not pay anything for it. However, depending on the make, model, and damage, they will pay a significant amount. Call a number of yards and compare the prices.

After you have found the yard that will give you the right price, all you need to do is deliver the automobile. If you can, tow or drive the vehicle to the yard yourself. Many salvage yards will pay a higher price for autos that they do not have to pick up. Delivering yourself saves you time and money. Do not forget the vehicle title.

When you sell to a salvage yard there are a few laws that you need to know. The ones that folks should keep in mind include price maximums, private seller, mileage tampering, and state lemon laws. Many states allow people to sell scrap vehicles under different laws.

Understand that it is against the law to tamper with the odometer reading. If your odometer is no longer working you will need to inform the buyer. You should also understand what your state considers private sellers and dealers. There are some states that determine dealer status by the number of automobiles that are sold in twelve months.
