Thinking Of Buying An Using Remanufactured Engines

By Brenda Fox

Every car, truck and bike will have an engine to provide the power and occasionally these will fail or break down. Attention from an auto mechanic may solve the problem but if the failure is serious you may need to buy a new power unit. When you are thinking of purchasing and using Remanufactured Engines there are various options and some care is needed.

A factory engine is a very expensive item and a lot of vehicle owners will not be able to afford one. Highly specialized engineering companies can take non functioning power plants and do some reconditioning work to make them run again. These units are environmentally friendly due to the recycling of components and they are a cost effective way to get back on the road.

When you want to buy a remanufactured power plant there are a couple of ways to get what you need. You can buy one from a supplier that is ready to fit or you can send your unit for repair. Both of theses options have advantages and you should choose the one that suits your needs.

If you choose to buy a ready to fit engine you can purchase one from one of the specialist companies that are trading. Auto stores in your neighborhood may also be able to supply a compatible power plant or they can order one for you. Local auto mechanics will also be able to help and they may be able to do the work for you or recommend an engineering company.

An alternative way to get a reconditioned power plant is to buy from a web based engineering firm. The online suppliers will have a large stock of units and they will be listed on the web site with photos and specifications. When you are purchasing a unit from an online supplier it is advisable to speak with them before ordering to make sure the item is suitable.

If a supplier does not have a suitable unit in stock and you need to send your damaged one for attention then you should be aware of a few important things. You need to hire an auto technician to remove the engine from your vehicle if you cannot do the job yourself. You will need to organize some transport to get the unit to the remanufacturing firm and this may be expensive.

When the engine has been removed from your vehicle it will need to be packed in an appropriate crate for its road journey. If you are using a courier company it can be a good idea to get price quotes for shipping so that you can compare prices. You should also make sure that the crate is fully insured against damage or loss while it is in transit.

Most engine remanufacturing firms will offer a guarantee to cover their reconditioned units. This may be a twelve month warranty or a mileage guarantee against breakdowns. Any paperwork that details the guarantee should be kept in a safe place in case claims have to be made at a later date.
